niagara falls

The Niagara River, as is the entire Great Lakes Basin of which the river is an integral part, is a legacy of the last Ice Age. 18,000 years ago southern Ontario was covered by ice sheets 2-3 kilometres thick. As they advanced southward the ice sheets gouged out the basins of the Great Lakes. Then as they melted northward for the last time they released vast quantities of melt water into these basins. Our water is “fossil water”; less than one percent of it is renewable on an annual basis, the rest leftover from the ice sheets. The Niagara Peninsula became free of the ice about 12,500 years ago. As the ice retreated northward, its melt waters began to flow down through what became Lake Erie, the Niagara River and Lake Ontario, down to the St. Lawrence River, and, finally, down to the sea. There were originally 5 spillways from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario. Eventually these were reduced to one, the original Niagara Falls, at Queens ton-Lewis ton. From here the Falls began its steady erosion through the bedrock. and people should go here because it's fun and peaceful and it's 51 meters and it's somewhere in Canada and it's beautiful.
HERE ARE SOME OTHER PHOTOS AND OTHER INFORMATION OF                         NIAGARA FALLS

Approximately 500 years ago the river encountered an obstacle that caused it to ‘split into two channels’, thus Goat Island was formed named after John Sted man whose goat herds froze to death in the winter of 1780). This was the original sediment left from a vanished Lake Tonawanda (an Indian name).
On the eastern part of the island, the American Falls took shape, the Horseshoe Falls, is on the western side, where the river angles some 90 degrees. The water flow on the American side of the falls is much less in strength because of Goat Island, whereas Horseshoe Falls has no obstruction to divert it. It should be noted that a third much narrower falls exists. Over the years these falls have been called at different times; Luna Falls, Iris Falls and is currently named Bridal Veil Falls.
Man has not been able to completely control the flow of the water over the falls, even modern engineers have tried. Much of the water today is fed through underground channels and pipes to nearby hydro electric power stations.

Ayvah JUMP

Who are the main characters in the story?

Question
Answer
Who are the main characters in the story?
Pania,uncle hone ,and matui.
What are they standing on at the top of the building?
They are on top of a building to bungy
jump.
Do you think standing on this would be scary? Why/why not?
It would be scary because the platform is made out of glass and you could see all the buildings and their nana’s house
How high up were they?
They are 292 meters from the ground
What are some of the things that they could see on the ground?
They could see there nana’s house and the harbour and the stadium.
What happened to Matiu? How was he feeling and why?
He felt sick and dizzy because he was scared that the platform will break.
How come Matiu couldn’t jump off?
Because he had to be 35 kg but he was 25 kg so he was so close.
Why do you think it would be a good idea to have a weight or height restriction?
I think it’s good to do a weight  and height restriction because it’s safe and the children might slip out.
What tower is the one in the book similar to?
The auckland sky tower because it’s the tallest  tower in the auckland
What did Matiu do at the end of the story on the glass?
He did push ups and did krumping and did a 5 second haka
What do you think of the joke picture?
I thought it was funny and creative because instead of bungy jumping they just took a photo showing pania pushing matiu off.
How do you think Nan will like that as  a christmas card?
I think she will be surprised because matiu did something new and it’s good to try something new.

back to back writing

Introduction: 3 sentences
  • Hook
  • Who, what, where, when, why

It was a bright and sunny morning actually a really hot and muggy morning.at school i went to class and said hi to my friends and school started. We moved to our writing classes and miss parrant said we are doing something different today you have to find a buddy and get a pencil when we did the instructions as she told we went outside and it was burning hot it was so hot that i said it is so hoooottttt so i quickly went in the shade and she said the whole instructions.
Body: 3-4 sentences
  • What were the instructions that Miss Parrant told you?
  • What did she say you were going to do?

The whole instructions were getting a blank piece of paper and the other buddy gets a paper with a picture made out of shapes then we sit down and face back to back and describe the picture and they have to draw. Afer 10-15 minutes we went back to class we started to write a recount of it.
Body: 3-4 sentences
  • What happened when you were drawing/ giving instructions?
  • How did you feel having to do this?
I felt happy about it because it was fun doing something new and because we got to go outside and feel the fresh air and when i was drawing i elt proud of my self for trying my best

Body:: 3-4 sentences
  • What did you final image look like?
  • What would you change next time you do it?

I would tell my buddy to watch the teacher and focus

Conclusion: Two sentences
  • One final sentence to sum up your recount
  • Re thinking the ideas of the recount.

Now that you have made a plan, it is time to write your recount in full sentences. Start your writing here:
It was a hot and muggy morning i went to school and i said hii to all my friends and school  started miy teacher did the roll then we moved to our writing class then we went on the mat and she said to go get a pencil and get a buddy so we went in to buddys and

I know I have been successful writing because my recount:
1
Has an orientation to tell who, what, when, where.

2
Recounts the experience in the order the events happened.

3
Shares my feelings about the experience at the end.

4
Is written using verbs in the past tense (I saw, I walked, I felt).

5
Has sentences with capital letters and full stops.
